The Jetson ONE, a novel jetpack, recently conducted its maiden flight in the United States, projecting customer deliveries to commence in 2024. Hailing from Italy, the company, backed by $15 million in funding, has amassed 300 pre-orders for the Jetson ONE, set to retail at $98,000.
This innovative jetpack boasts a maximum flying speed of 63 miles per hour and an altitude capability of 1,500 feet. Its propulsion is facilitated by eight electric motors, each equipped with an individual battery pack, linked to eight propellers, enabling approximately 20 minutes of flight time before requiring a recharge.
Remarkably, the entire apparatus weighs less than 200 pounds, earning it the classification of an "ultralight" aircraft. This designation exempts it from the stringent regulations imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration on other emerging flying car models. Consequently, Jetson ONE users can operate the device without obtaining a license, certification, or undergoing testing, in contrast to the rigorous requirements imposed on amateur airplane and helicopter pilots.
According to CEO Stéphan D’haene, mastering the Jetson ONE takes about five hours, after which pilots can utilize "intuitive joystick controls" for steering, leaving the flight computer to manage complex tasks. Additionally, the product includes a "ballistic parachute" as a safety feature.
D’haene emphasized Jetson's mission to democratize flight, making the skies accessible to everyone.
